Walking down the steps she turned her head
To glance at the clock.
“Six minutes yet,” she said
Under her breath
Which frosted into clouds
And locked the feeling in.
“I have done this before, “ she thought,
And without meaning to, she let nostalgia in
To work upon her senses.
How strange it seemed to stand there
Waiting for this same train.
She felt the same excitement build up
As the lights shone out of the night
And lit the track that she’d looked forward to travelling
So many times that she’d fight
With her feelings to stop them wondering
How this could possibly be a good idea.
She’d feared rejection
And prayed against it when she reached her destination.

God had seldom answered.

Perhaps the noise of the train
That rattled into the station
Had hidden her plea.
For the excitement crept out of her eyes
When despair moved in at the end of her journey.

She was lost in thoughts till the train came in,
And as she climbed on she said,
“If only I was on my way
To where I used to be going.”
